Urban Worm Coco Coir

Urban Worm Coco Coir is a proven, eco-friendly worm bedding and soil amendment made from coconut husks. 2 of our 1.4-lb coco coir bricks is the perfect amount of bedding to start the Urban Worm Bag.

Urban Worm Coco Coir is rinsed to remove salt content and features a near-neutral pH.

Each 1.4-lb brick absorbs nearly a gallon of water and expands to over 2.5 gallons of a loose, fluffy, substrate you can use in your worm bin, garden, or custom soils.

Note: 24-packs of coco coir may come as 24 singles, 12 x 2-packs, or 4 x packs. You will receive 24 blocks of coco coir, regardless.

Clean, Super Easy and Convenient to Use!

Using this as supplement to cardboard bedding in my Urban Worm Bag. My worm population has grown so much on a year, its hard to keep up with additional bedding. I had been using CC in bags from the organic garden store but found tiny, rice grain size "coconut" snails in it. This CC was super easy and convenient. The blocks are packaged in a container-bag that is used to hydrate in. Follow the instructions on the packaging: Put your block in a bucket, add the prescribed amount of water to the plastic bag and let it hydrate overnight. After fluffing it up, I squeezed out maybe a 1/4 cup of excess water from the hydrated block before adding it to the worm bin. Expanded to about 4 gallons of bedding. I use HOT water to rehydrate, and it completely hydrates the entire block overnight. It's also easier to store than a big ol' bag of loose CC. I love this product!

Coco coir and my happy worms

Using the simple instructions I was easily able to get my two worm bags up and ready for my worms. There was a mixup as my note was missed and I got my two pounds in one bag. This being my first time dealing with worms, I was not sure if this was one or two pounds and if it was two I had no clue how to split them. Plus, I guess because of the cold they were not moving and I thought they might be dead. So I closed the bag and waited 24 hours before I checked them. To my surprise they were gone, dug themselves below the surface. So I put in some food scraps, one tablespoon of worm food from urban worm and a tablespoon of crushed eggshells. I opened the hood and saw the most beautiful site… hundreds of worms eating and squirming in their happy home. I ordered another pound of worms for my other urban worm bag and can’t wait! The coco coir makes for an easy setup for me and a happy home for my worms. P.s. I’ve decided to name all my worms, Slimy. Much easier that way. Thanks Steve! Great products excellent company! Great customer service!

    Good Quality and Large Quantity

I purchased the coir for 2 worm bins for an elementary school project, done in 14 gallon plastic storage bins. The students shredded newspaper and the coir was to supplement the paper. One block of coir would have been enough bedding for the two bins. I should have broken off about 1/3 of the block for each bin. The coir is clean, well-compacted, and easily hydrates with water.
